Urban Meyer Expresses Sympathy for Sherrone Moore Following Controversial Firing
Urban Meyer offers his thoughts on the recent firing of Michigan coach Sherrone Moore, emphasizing the human aspect of the situation amidst the football rivalry.
Former Ohio State coach and multiple national champion Urban Meyer has expressed his support for the family of Sherrone Moore, following his recent dismissal from Michigan due to a relationship deemed inappropriate with a staff member. Meyer acknowledged that the conversation transcends football, especially after Moore faced serious legal charges for felony home invasion and stalking.
“Last night, I said a prayer for that family. I mean, you’ve got three little girls,” Meyer shared on The Triple Option Podcast. “Rivalries aside, this is all a human element.”
“Now, this is something that, from what you read, that’s some serious stuff that went on. And just, all of a sudden, you start seeing the impact. Forget football. Who cares about football?”
Moore, aged 39 and a married father, was fired for cause, which likely protects Michigan from having to pay his $14 million buyout due to policy violations. Meyer noted Moore’s abrupt shift from success to crisis within a short time frame, as just days earlier, the Michigan team was leading against Ohio State.
Michigan’s current coaching staff is preparing for an upcoming Citrus Bowl against Texas, while Moore’s last public engagements made headlines due to controversies surrounding player participation in the game. Amidst the upheaval, Michigan is now scrutinizing its athletic department further in light of recent events.
