The midfielder for the United States men’s national team and captain, Tyler Adams, is expected to be sidelined with a suspected medial collateral ligament injury following his exit during the Bournemouth 4-4 match against Manchester United in the Premier League on Monday.
During the match at Old Trafford, Adams sustained the injury in the second minute while challenging Matheus Cunha, and had to leave the field after receiving medical attention.
“He’s the worst news from the game, definitely,” noted Bournemouth’s coach, Andoni Iraola. “The knee twisted, I think the MCL. We’ll need to examine and determine if it’s a minor sprain or something more severe.”

Iraola added, “Losing a player like Tyler is significant for us, especially since Lewis Cook is suspended. Alex has been filling in that holding midfield role effectively, but it’s unfortunate since Tyler is a vital player for our team.”
Adams previously captained the United States during the last World Cup in 2022 held in Qatar. The U.S. team does not have any scheduled matches until March, when they will play two friendlies.
Adams has played an essential role for Bournemouth, featuring in almost every Premier League round and netting two goals, including the goal of the month for November.
