The 2026 FIFA World Cup champion will earn a staggering $50 million award, according to FIFA’s announcement on Wednesday.
This amount surpasses the previous prizes of $42 million in 2022 and $38 million in 2018, although it remains below the $125 million prize for the winning team of the Club World Cup held earlier in the year.
FIFA revealed that the overall prize pool for the tournament, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will amount to $655 million, marking a significant 50% increase from the last edition in Qatar.
In contrast, the less widely celebrated Club World Cup offered a total prize pool of $1 billion, with growing dissent from players and leagues due to its expanded format.
Furthermore, all 48 participating nations in the World Cup will receive $1.5 million to cover preparation costs, with the least prize set at $9 million.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino expressed confidence, stating that the upcoming World Cup would set new standards in financial contributions to the football community worldwide.
The runner-up is set to pocket $33 million, while the third and fourth place finishers will receive $29 million and $27 million, respectively.
