Unusual Two-Point Conversion Lifts Seahawks Past Rams in Overtime

A bizarre two-point conversion helped the Seattle Seahawks secure an unlikely victory over the Los Angeles Rams during an intense overtime showdown.

The Seattle Seahawks dramatically equalized against the Los Angeles Rams in the fourth quarter with one of the most unique plays imaginable鈥攕erving as a lesson to play until the whistle blows.

Trailing 30-28 with 6:23 left, following a touchdown pass from Sam Darnold to A.J. Barner, Jared Verse successfully deflected what looked like Darnold’s completion to Zach Charbonnet on a two-point conversion attempt.

However, it was later revealed that Darnold’s pass was, in fact, a backward pass. Since Charbonnet scooped the ball in the end zone before the whistle blew, it counted successfully toward a two-point conversion.

Charbonnet’s seemingly casual actions led to a significant momentum shift. The Seahawks, who had been down 30-14 mere moments before, benefited from Rashid Shaheed’s 58-yard punt return, followed by a defensive stand that forced the Rams to go three-and-out. Darnold then quickly led a touchdown drive that culminated with this unconventional two-point conversion.

Rams head coach Sean McVay remarked, “Didn鈥檛 get a clear explanation of everything that went on just because of some of the timing of it … [I鈥檝e] never seen or never been a part of anything like that.”

While that was the last score of regulation, it was not the final twist of this wild game. After the Rams scored first in overtime with a field goal, they moved ahead to 37-30. The Seahawks responded with a touchdown of their own and then executed a traditional two-point conversion with a pass from Darnold to Eric Saubert.

Overall, the Seahawks managed an impressive three two-point conversions throughout the game鈥攐ne being Darnold’s pass to Cooper Kupp鈥攃ontributing to a stunning comeback. This victory marked the first time any team had won due to an overtime two-point conversion, and it kept Seattle in a strong position for their playoff pursuits.
