South Carolina RB Oscar Adaway III Files Assault Complaint Against Texas Trooper
Oscar Adaway III has filed a complaint alleging assault against a Texas state trooper following an incident during a college football game.
South Carolina running back Oscar Adaway III has filed a criminal complaint against a state trooper from Texas after an incident that occurred during Texas A&M on November 15. Adaway alleges that the trooper assaulted him and wide receiver Nyck Harbor during a game.
Adaway’s attorney, B. Keith Jackson, informed The Washington Post that the complaint was filed on December 12, and it is currently under review by the Brazos County District Attorney.
In his effort to get the trooper’s name for accountability, Adaway has not received a response from both Texas A&M Police and Texas Department of Public Safety, despite having reported the incident.
Adaway mentioned that since the incident, he has faced sleepless nights and consulted a University of South Carolina sports psychiatrist for emotional support.
“You see this sort of thing on TV – different scenarios of police bullying people here and there – but you never feel it and understand it until you’re actually in the situation,” Adaway explained.
The incident happened in the last moments of the second quarter after Harbor scored an impressive 80-yard touchdown. Following the score, Harbor showed discomfort, prompting teammates, including Adaway, to accompany him into the tunnel. It was during this moment that the trooper made contact with them and then issued remarks leading to the complaint.
Following the event, the Texas DPS acknowledged the incident and removed the officer from game duties for further investigation. Their statement confirms they are reviewing the matter but withheld further details.
