Charlie Weis Jr. is seen as a rising star in college football coaching, but he might ascend to the NFL sooner than expected. Sources revealed to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz that NFL teams are targeting Weis as a potential offensive coordinator as the offseason approaches.
Weis has spent four years as the quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator for Ole Miss, raising his profile significantly. He played a key role in developing Jaxson Dart, a first-round pick for the New York Giants, and helped mould Trinidad Chambliss, contributing to the Rebels’ leading offensive performance in 2025.
While he is anticipated to join Lane Kiffin’s coaching staff at LSU, Weis has remained in Oxford for the College Football Playoff, where the Rebels are averaging 40 points per game through the first two rounds, including a quarterfinal victory over Georgia.
As reported by Brandon Marcello, various LSU coaches are departing Ole Miss ahead of their Fiesta Bowl game against Miami on Thursday night. Nonetheless, Weis will continue with the Rebels in pursuit of a national championship.
At age 32, Weis has primarily worked in college football, aside from a brief stint in 2017 with the Atlanta Falcons under offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian. He was also an offensive coordinator at FAU under Kiffin for two seasons before returning to Ole Miss in 2022.
