First-year Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been vocal about his feelings towards the New York Jets, the team that parted ways with him following just two seasons. After leading his team to victory against the Jets this season, he took the opportunity to comment on how Steelers coach Mike Tomlin’s approach aligns with his preferences. When asked if Tomlin’s culture influenced his decision to join the Steelers last offseason, Rodgers stated:
“I think the way that he creates the culture and allows guys to be themselves is an important part of team chemistry and being a healthy locker room. One thing I really love, and it’s kind of the opposite of where I was, is that there aren’t any leaks in the boat. Every year brings its challenges, on and off the field, and it has been refreshing to focus solely on football without any distracting issues.”
Rodgers seemed to reference the Jets and the frequent reports that circulated during his time there. Almost weekly, new information about Rodgers would emerge, prompting him to clarify or correct during his appearances on ‘The Pat McAfee Show.’
In his new role with the Steelers, Rodgers has achieved multiple milestones, leading the team to its first division title in five years, highlighted by a game-winning touchdown pass in their dramatic Week 18 win over the Baltimore Ravens.
Despite Tomlin’s exemplary coaching record, he has faced a fair share of criticism regarding his team’s recent playoff performances. After a successful start to his career, he has found it challenging to achieve postseason success. Rodgers remarked on Tomlin’s sustained excellence with:
“Mike T has had an incredible career as a head coach. To maintain such a record without a losing season is phenomenal.”
