Anthony Edwards Achieves Scoring Milestone, Surpassing Kobe

The Minnesota Timberwolves star reaches a significant scoring milestone in his career, becoming the third-youngest player to reach 10,000 points.

In the midst of the fourth quarter on Thursday, Anthony Edwards posted up on the right side of the floor and called for the ball. After catching a high lob from Naz Reid, he pump faked, took one dribble to create space, and made a fadeaway jumper over multiple defenders.

The basket added Edwards 23 points for the night and brought his career total to 10,000, making him the third-youngest player in NBA history to reach that milestone. Only LeBron James and Kevin Durant achieved it earlier, with Edwards being 24 years and 156 days old.

Edwards finished with 25 points, seven rebounds, and nine assists, leading the Minnesota Timberwolves to a victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers for their fourth consecutive win. The Timberwolves now hold a record of 25-13 and are just 1½ games behind the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference. Edwards humorously remarked that he wished he had delayed reaching the milestone: “I’m kind of sick that I got it from Kobe. I wish I would have waited like 100 days or something. But it’s all good.”

Thanks to Edwards, Bryant now ranks fourth on the all-time list.

Player Age when reaching 10K points
LeBron James 23 years, 59 days
Kevin Durant 24 years, 33 days
Anthony Edwards 24 years, 156 days
Kobe Bryant 24 years, 195 days

The Timberwolves are thrilled with how quickly Edwards has made a name for himself as a leading scorer in the league, especially after the doubts surrounding him when he was drafted first overall in the 2020 NBA Draft. Six years later, Edwards has demonstrated consistent improvement, currently averaging a career-high 29.2 points per game this season, while shooting above 50% from the field and 40% from three-point range.

Edwards’ remarkable development this season is evident as he transitions from a high-volume three-point shooter to a more versatile scorer, with increased efficiency.

In summary, Edwards has made history. Earlier this season, he became the youngest player to record 1,200 career three-pointers, a feat unmatched by any player under 25. With his all-around performance and notable scoring achievements, he has solidified his status as an emerging star in the NBA.
