NCAA Rejects Waiver Request for Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss, Ending College Career

Trinidad Chambliss, a standout quarterback at Ole Miss, faces the conclusion of his collegiate football journey as the NCAA denies his waiver to play in the 2026 season.

Trinidad Chambliss, quarterback for Ole Miss, has officially lost eligibility for the 2026 season as the NCAA denied his waiver request this week, marking the end of a multi-week push for clearance from both the Rebels and his legal representatives. Chambliss had an agreement to return to play under first-year head coach Pete Golding with the condition that his waiver was granted. This now nullifies that contract.

“This decision aligns with consistent application of NCAA rules,” the NCAA stated on Friday. They have processed numerous clock extension requests but highlighted that most approvals included necessary medical documentation, which was lacking in the denied cases.

Tom Mars, Chambliss’ attorney, expressed disappointment with the NCAA’s ruling, mentioning that Ole Miss plans to appeal the decision. “I’m disappointed but not surprised. The real score is determined in the court, not by bureaucrats in Indianapolis who may not regard the law, or what’s right.”

Chambliss, who previously played for Ferris State, was counting on a retroactive redshirt due to playing only two games in the 2022 season, but his classification at Division II complicates his eligibility under Division I rules. He has emerged as a key player, showcasing impressive stats throughout the season, including leading playoff performances.

New quarterback pursuits for Ole Miss may include many options as the team considers future strategies following loss in the playoffs. Deuce Knight from Auburn, who recently entered the transfer portal, could be a potential target.
