The inaugural headliner of Zuffa Boxing’s events has been officially announced. On January 23, the boxing fight featuring junior middleweights Callum Walsh and Carlos Ocampo will take place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. This event will stream live on Paramount+, happening just before the UFC 324 at the T-Mobile Arena in the same city.
Callum Walsh (15-0, 11 KO) has been a focus of promotion by UFC’s CEO Dana White, building anticipation through various fights available on UFC Fight Pass. The establishment of Zuffa Boxing complements TKO’s entry into boxing, further cementing Walsh’s position within this new venture.
The fighter expressed his gratitude towards White in an interview with MMA Fighting, noting, “I like Dana. He has done so much for my career and my life. I am loyal to him and will always speak positively about him.”
As Walsh seeks to continue his winning streak, he currently holds the No. 4 spot in the IBF junior middleweight rankings and maintains commendable positions in the WBC and WBO rankings as well. His most recent match saw him earn a unanimous decision victory over Fernando Vargas Jr.
In contrast, Carlos Ocampo (38-3, 26 KO) brings significant experience to the matchup but has faced challenges in pivotal fights throughout his career, including notable losses to elite prospects like Errol Spence Jr. and Tim Tszyu.
Since his defeat to Tszyu, Ocampo has bounced back with three consecutive stoppage victories.
