Anthony Davis' Injury Could Sideline Him for Months, Impacting Trade Prospects

The Dallas Mavericks' center Anthony Davis might need surgery after injuring his left hand, which could significantly affect his availability in the trade market.

The center for the Dallas Mavericks Anthony Davis reportedly suffered ligament damage in his left hand, and he might need surgery, which could sideline him for several months, according to ESPN.

Davis injured his left hand while defending Utah star Lauri Markkanen during a recent game against the Utah Jazz, leading to extensive testing that indicated the extent of the damage further. A second opinion will be consulted to determine the best course of action. Should surgery be required, Davis, who has a history of injuries, could miss significant time.

In the current season, Davis has played 20 games for the Mavericks, showcasing an average of 20.4 points and 11.1 rebounds per game; however, ongoing injuries have limited his presence on the court. Earlier this season, he missed 15 games due to a calf injury, followed by another two-game absence due to a groin injury sustained during the Mavericks’ Christmas Day matchup.

The hurt also influences several other teams eyeing Davis before the upcoming trade deadline on February 5, including the Atlanta Hawks, who were considered potential suitors for him, especially after clearing before trading Trae Young to the Washington Wizards. Davis’ recovery timeline will be crucial for teams like Dallas and Atlanta as they navigate the trade landscape.

In the meantime, the Mavericks, standing at 14-24, will have to face more of the season without their star center.
