Jaylen Brown Penalized for Criticizing Officiating Discrepancies in Celtics' Loss

Celtics star Jaylen Brown was fined $35,000 after expressing his frustration over a significant foul discrepancy following a tightly contested game against the Spurs.

The Boston Celtics suffered a narrow 100-95 defeat to the San Antonio Spurs last Saturday. In this close matchup, the Celtics faced a troubling free-throw imbalance, with the Spurs taking 14 free throws compared to Boston’s four attempts. Following the game, Celtics’ star player, Jaylen Brown, publicly criticized the officiating which led to a $35,000 fine from the NBA for his comments.

“I’m sick of this s—.”

In his statements, Brown highlighted the significant disparity in foul calls, stating: “I thought it was some bulls— tonight. They reward the other team with touch-fouls, and we go down there and guys are allowed to get away with it.” He specifically called out referee Curtis Blair for the inconsistencies he perceived during the game.

Despite the loss dropping the Celtics’ record to 24-14, Brown remains optimistic about the team’s performance as they navigate the early season without star player Jayson Tatum.

Brown mentioned, “If we can’t get to the free-throw line and teams are allowed to be physical and bump us off our spots, it’s hard to win games like that.”

Currently, he leads the NBA in scoring with 29.5 points per game, showcasing his ability to rise to the occasion even in the absence of key teammates.
