San Diego Wave Strengthens Offense with Ludmila Acquisition

San Diego Wave FC has strengthened its attack with the signing of Brazilian international Ludmila from the Chicago Stars.

San Diego Wave FC has boosted its attack with a new acquisition. Brazilian international Ludmila has been traded from the Chicago Stars to San Diego in exchange for an $800,000 transfer fee, marking a record for Chicago and the second-highest intraleague fee after last year’s $1.25 million transfer for Jayden Shaw from North Carolina to Gotham FC.

The Stars could see an additional $200,000 based on performance incentives, raising the total potential value of this trade to $1 million. Ludmila will take an international slot on San Diego’s roster for 2026, amidst rumors of another Wave FC player departure, France’s Delphine Cascarino.

“We’re thrilled to have reached an agreement to bring Ludmila here,” said Camille Ashton, Sporting Director and General Manager. “She brings immense talent and complements the strengths of our existing roster. Her versatility allows her to perform in multiple attacking positions, providing our coaches with more tactical flexibility in various match situations.”

Ludmila previously registered 81 goals in 185 matches throughout her club career with Río Preto (2013), São José (2015-2016), Atlético Madrid (2017-2024), and the Chicago Stars. She made an impact in the NWSL since July 2024, scoring 13 times in 31 matches, and was in contention for the 2025 Golden Boot with 10 goals, placing her fourth overall.

“I scored my first NWSL goal against San Diego, which has always been a favorite team of mine. I loved the fans and the energy of the club when I visited. I’m very happy to be part of this Club’s history,” she expressed.

“From the moment the organization showed interest in me, I was focused on playing here. I didn’t come just to participate; I came to give my best and strive to win trophies. I can’t wait to showcase my skills in front of our supporters and score numerous goals in these colors,” she added.

The significant transfer fee boosts the Chicago franchise, which will also retain a 10% sell-on clause for future transfers. Chicago’s new head coach Martin Sjögren expressed confidence in his squad’s prospects: “We wish Ludmila the best in this next chapter. With recent additions like Ivonne Chacon and Ryan Gareis, paired with emerging talents Jameese Joseph and Micayla Johnson, we’ll have a strong attack. Plus, seasoned midfielders like the newly signed Brianna Pinto will enhance our team, alongside the anticipated return of Mallory Swanson later this season.”
