Olympic Gold Medalists Vonn, Shiffrin, and Kim Selected for 2026 Ski and Snowboard Team

The U.S. Ski & Snowboard team announces its 2026 Winter Olympics roster, featuring three Olympic champions returning to the games.

The U.S. Ski & Snowboard team has revealed its roster of 97 athletes who will be vying for glory at the upcoming Winter Olympics in Italy next month. This esteemed group features celebrated gold medalists like Mikaela Shiffrin, Chloe Kim, and Lindsey Vonn, who returns after her retirement a few years ago.

Shiffrin, notable for being a two-time Olympic champion and having amassed a record 107 victories, stands as the most successful alpine skier in history.

Vonn, who stepped away from competitive skiing in 2019, has made a commendable return after undergoing successful knee surgery that alleviated her pain and allowed her to rejoin the sport. Last December, the 41-year-old made history by becoming the oldest winner of a World Cup event, marking her 83rd victory and first since 2018.

Kim, the young snowboarder who captured the spotlight during the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, comes back after making history at just 17 with two consecutive 1080-degree spins at the Games, making her the youngest female to achieve that feat and also to win gold in the halfpipe.

The Milano Cortina Games will take place from February 6-22 in Northern Italy.

Unfortunately, snowboarder Jamie Anderson, who aimed for a comeback after the birth of her two children, was not selected for the team. Anderson shared her motivation in trying out was spurred by seeing fellow athletes balance family life with their careers, but injuries impacted her efforts this season.

Rick Bower, the snowboard program director, emphasized the difficulty in making the Olympic team, stating, “in many ways, making this team is even harder than the Olympics themselves. The depth of our field is incredible, and selection truly came down to the wire.”

The men’s alpine skiing team includes

  • Ryan Cochran-Siegle, an Olympic silver medalist,
  • Jessie Diggins, who is also a three-time Olympic medalist, making her debut in her fourth and final Olympic Games.
