NFL Teams Likely to Decline in 2025: Commanders and Vikings at the Forefront

Analysis of five NFL teams expected to experience a significant drop in performance during the 2025 season.

The NFL had its fair share of surprises in 2024, highlighted by the Minnesota Vikings finishing with a remarkable 14 victories and the Washington Commanders making their first appearance in the conference championship since 1991. However, these teams, along with others like the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos, face significant challenges that could lead to a decline in the upcoming 2025 season.

Teams Anticipated to Decline

  1. Minnesota Vikings (14-3)
The Vikings experienced a surprising season last year but lost their last two matchups, raising concerns about their capabilities moving forward. The team’s quarterback situation remains uncertain after Sam Darnold’s potential departure and rookie J.J. McCarthy’s expected limitations.

  2. Washington Commanders (12-5)
In their first season under quarterback Jayden Daniels, the Commanders exceeded expectations, yet repeating such success might prove difficult given their challenging schedule and the expectation of regression.

  3. Pittsburgh Steelers (10-7)
Despite a playoff appearance, the Steelers ended their season in disappointing fashion, with questions about their offense and quarterback stability.

  4. Denver Broncos (10-7)
With rookie quarterback Bo Nix leading the charge, the Broncos achieved playoff success. However, following up on their breakout season will be a considerable task, especially with such a competitive division and the loss of several key players.

  5. Indianapolis Colts (8-9)
After a tumultuous season with inconsistent quarterback play from both Richardson and Flacco, the Colts struggle to build a competitive roster capable of returning to contention in the AFC South.
