Scheffler Pursues Kim as the American Express Leaderboard Final Round Approaches

Scottie Scheffler is trailing Si Woo Kim at the American Express event, setting the stage for an electrifying final round.

On Saturday at the 2026 American Express, the wind picked up for the first time this week, impacting the scores at La Quinta, California. Scottie Scheffler, who had impressive rounds of 63 and 64, faced a greater challenge on the Stadium Course, finishing the round at 4-under 68, bringing his total to 20 under.

Despite recording his first bogey of the week on the 3rd, Scheffler salvaged a challenging 18th hole with a critical 25-footer, keeping him tightly in contention for the next day.

Leading the charge ahead of him is Si Woo Kim, who surged into first place with a 66 at La Quinta Country Club, bringing his total to an impressive 22 under. Kim demonstrated remarkable performance on the back nine, scoring three consecutive birdies.

Joining Scheffler at 21 under is the young talent Blade Brown, who played a solid 68. Brown has been a sensation, especially after his spectacular 60 performance earlier in the week.

As we head into Sunday’s final round, it remains crucial for the players to manage their nerves and aim for low scores, with many expecting to need to beat 25 under to secure victory.
