Timberwolves and Warriors Game Postponed Following Minneapolis Shooting Incident

The NBA has decided to postpone the game scheduled between the Timberwolves and Warriors due to a shooting incident involving federal agents in Minneapolis, prioritizing community safety.

The NBA has postponed Saturday’s game between the Minnesota Timberwolves and Golden State Warriors at Target Center after a man was fatally shot by federal agents on Saturday morning in Minneapolis. The league cited the “safety and security” of the community in announcing the decision. The game has been rescheduled for Sunday at 5:30 p.m.

“The decision was made to prioritize the safety and security of the Minneapolis community,” the NBA said.
“La decisión se tomó para priorizar la seguridad de la comunidad de Minneapolis.”

Minneapolis police confirmed the person killed was a 37-year-old American citizen residing in Minneapolis. The shooting occurred near Nicollet Avenue and 26th Street at approximately 9:15 a.m. Department of Homeland Security officials told CBS News that the man had a firearm and two magazines. According to police chief Brian O’Hara, the victim was a lawful gun owner with a permit to carry.

This incident marks the second fatal shooting of a Minneapolis resident in the last month, following the shooting of 37-year-old Renee Good by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent on January 9. That earlier shooting also sparked weeks of protests in the city, including a significant march on Friday.

The latest shooting has triggered further protests and demonstrations by residents against the ongoing presence of ICE agents in Minneapolis.

With the game being postponed, the Timberwolves and Warriors will now face each other on back-to-back nights at Target Center in Minneapolis, with the second game scheduled for Monday night.
