Brad Stevens Dismisses Indiana Coaching Speculations
Boston Celtics GM Brad Stevens confirms he is not interested in the Indiana head coaching position amid rumors sparked by Mike Woodson's uncertain future.
In recent developments, Indiana men’s basketball coach Mike Woodson is likely to exit his position after this season. Speculation escalated concerning Brad Stevens, the general manager of the Boston Celtics, as a possible successor for the Hoosiers.
However, Stevens has made it clear that he is not looking to leave the NBA. "I thoroughly appreciate being a Celtic and love the people I get to work with every day," he stated, as reported by ESPN.
Originally from Zionsville, Indiana, Stevens had notable success as the head coach of Butler from 2007 to 2013 before moving to Boston. Under his leadership, Butler made four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, including two national championship games. He transitioned to a front office role for the Celtics prior to the 2021-22 season.
Currently, the Hoosiers hold a 15-10 record (6-8 in Big Ten play), reflecting a stark contrast to their 17th place ranking in the AP preseason poll. Last season, they ended with a 19-14 record, failing to qualify for the NCAA Tournament.
Woodson, an Indiana alumnus, has managed a 78-50 record since taking over in 2021. His tenure has not been very successful, marked by a failure to qualify for the NCAA Tournament last year despite welcoming the nation’s No. 2-ranked transfer class, which reportedly cost $5.5 million. The Hoosiers have continued to struggle, displaying a lack of cohesion on the court.
