If you’ve ever attempted to acquire a ticket to the Super Bowl, you might have realized it’s nearly impossible unless you’re ready to pay a fortune on the resale market.
The cheapest ticket for Super Bowl 60 is about $6,400. If you wish to attend with a companion or family member, expect to pay that amount per person. The average ticket price now stands at around $8,004 according to Tick Pick.
The most budget-friendly way to attend is to score a face-value ticket, ranging from $950 to $8,500. Though still pricey, a ticket costing $950 feels less burdensome than $6,000 on the secondary market.
However, securing a face-value ticket is notoriously challenging. This is largely because, for the Super Bowl, the NFL controls all tickets. There are no publicly sold tickets; instead, the league distributes them across all 32 teams and retains a portion for itself.
For this year’s event, both the Seahawks and Patriots will receive 17.5% of the tickets each, totaling 35% combined. Given the approximate capacity of 71,100 at Levi’s Stadium, this means around 12,450 tickets per team.
These tickets will be allocated to players, front office executives, and select season-ticket holders at face value.
Each Seahawks and Patriots player receives two complimentary tickets and can purchase up to 13 additional ones, translating to 795 tickets off the market. Moreover, tickets are also reserved for the coaching staff, front office, and former players.
Despite this, the NFL mandates that each team reserve at least 35% of its tickets for fans. Hence, both teams will distribute a minimum of 4,350 tickets to season-ticket holders via a lottery system.
Here’s how the ticket allocation breaks down:
- League Office: 25.2% of tickets
- Seahawks: 17.5% to participating teams
- Patriots: 17.5% to participating teams
- 49ers: 5% to the host team
- 29 Other Teams: 1.2% each (totaling 34.8%)
If you’re lucky enough to grab a face-value ticket, celebrate, as many will have shelled out a significant amount for their spot at the game.
“My family has had numerous season seats for the last 20 years and the Seahawks just sent this to my brother. They have never been selected in the lottery the last 3 times and they are so excited! They are going to the Superbowl!!!!” – Ashlee
