LONDON – The journey from New York to London might be straightforward, but Gotham FC’s path has been anything but simple. On Wednesday, the NWSL champions will take on Corinthians at the Brentford Community Stadium. This isn’t just a match; it’s an opportunity to claim a title they once held just before their roster significantly changed.
Having secured their first championship title under the former NJ/NY Gotham FC banner by beating OL Reign in the 2023 NWSL Championship, they now strive to make history. This journey started when they qualified for the Americas first championship in Leon, Mexico, setting the stage for their entry as North America’s inaugural representatives in the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup.
Only three players from that championship-winning squad, led by head coach Juan Carlos Amoros, remain as they head into this pivotal match in London. “It would be a dream come true for us to be in this position two games away,” remarked Amoros, relishing this moment.
With their eyes on the prize, Gotham aims to rise to the challenge and establish themselves firmly on the global stage, hoping to emerge victorious against one of South America’s strongest clubs.
