Xander Schauffele's Record Streak Concludes as Scottie Scheffler Takes Lead on PGA Tour

Xander Schauffele's impressive streak of making consecutive cuts ends at 72, marking the fifth-longest in PGA Tour history, while Scottie Scheffler now leads with 65 active cuts.

Xander Schauffele faced an 8-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole at Torrey Pines’ North Course on Friday afternoon, aiming to prolong his PGA Tour made cut streak. However, the birdie slipped past, concluding his historic streak — the fifth-longest in PGA Tour history — at 72 tournaments.

Schauffele had successfully made it to the weekend for 72 consecutive events, but his bid for 73 was thwarted.

Taking it in stride, Schauffele showcased his usual sense of humor regarding the setback, stating, “It’s going to be nice to have the weekend off. Going to go home and relax and regroup.”

He continued, “Surprisingly, missing this cut here is actually kind of okay because I can spend time with my family instead of being isolated in a hotel. All things considered, this spot truly might be the best place to miss it.”

Having maintained his weekend presence in every event since the 2022 Masters, Schauffele’s consistency is laudable. His recent exit was unexpected, especially given his familiarity with the course.

Upon reflection, Schauffele attributed his performance to his driver adjustments that left him uneasy off the tee — a critical element for success at Torrey Pines. As he stated, “Just some driver stuff – driver, shaft, trying to get the combination right. I typically don’t switch things up, but this time I did, and I lost my comfort level.”

Now, Schauffele can take the weekend to regroup and recalibrate his focus for upcoming tournaments, as he targets a new made cut streak.

On the active cut streak leaderboard, Scottie Scheffler has extended his own streak to 65 consecutive events, making him the new leader. With performances consistently placing him in the top 25 since 2024, he is aiming to surpass Schauffele’s all-time fifth-place record of 72 by the end of this PGA Tour season.

As he continues to chase legends such as Hale Irwin, Jack Nicklaus, Byron Nelson, and Tiger Woods, Scheffler foreshadows an exciting path ahead in his golfing career.
