Cristiano Ronaldo is currently absent from Al-Nassr’s lineup, as sources from CBS Sports reveal his frustration regarding the club’s management under Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF).
Ronaldo was not included in the squad on Monday for the match against Al-Riyadh, a decision taken by the player himself due to dissatisfaction with recent transfer activities. Al-Nassr has not made any new signings in the January transfer window, although they are reportedly seeking to improve their team before the window closes.
It appears Ronaldo’s stance is supported by other key figures at Al-Nassr amid the issues that arise from one organization owning multiple top clubs in Saudi Arabia. Previously, CBS Sports reported on the tensions related to this ownership structure, notably when Al-Hilal’s interest in securing Ronaldo for the Club World Cup surfaced.
Additionally, Al-Hilal’s pursuit of Karim Benzema from Al-Ittihad may complicate matters further, especially as the Pro League leaders’ moves could influence the championship race.
Despite being 40 years old, Ronaldo still has about 18 months left on his Al-Nassr contract. As of now, there’s no indication he will seek to leave early, but he hopes for support from PIF in the upcoming transfer period.
