Tom Izzo's Reaction to Accusations of Dangerous Plays in Rivalry Game

After a heated match with Michigan, Izzo comments on accusations from May regarding dangerous plays by Michigan State.

In the recent clash between Michigan and Michigan State, marked by the two teams fighting for the Big Ten title, Michigan’s coach, Dusty May, expressed concern over actions he deemed excessive and dangerous during the game that led to Michigan’s 83-71 victory.

May’s Accusations

May specifically highlighted an incident where Michigan State’s guard Jeremy Fears Jr. allegedly tripped Michigan star Yaxel Lendeborg. “It wasn’t an illusion,” May remarked regarding the play, asserting his viewpoint over the apparent trip.

I defended Fears quite a bit yesterday. But the LJ sequence, F1 on Yaxel, missed this clip from last night. He’s too important to MSU to risk getting ejected for nonsense

In an interview, May stated, “I think there were several plays that were very dangerous. I am incredibly proud of our guys for the responses they had to those situations. The film is there; 40 minutes of it — it’s not hard to find.”

Izzo Responds

Tom Izzo, Michigan State’s head coach, responded to these remarks, dismissing May’s claims as he directed focus onto their upcoming game against Minnesota. Izzo commented, “I thought there were a couple of plays the other way too… if it was physical play, that’s the way that game’s always going to be.” He indicated his lack of concern for May’s statements, suggesting, “If anybody did anything dirty, tell him to call me, and I would be more than happy to address it.”

This rivalry matchup is set to be completed on March 8 when they return to Michigan for the next leg.
