NFL Returns to Mexico with International Series in Mexico City

The NFL will host games in Mexico City for the next three seasons, marking its return to the country after a four-year absence.

The NFL’s International Series is expanding as the league plans to incorporate global venues in the 2026 season. The NFL will return to Mexico with three games slated to occur at Mexico City’s Estadio Banorte over the next three years. The upcoming game in December 2026 will see yet-to-be-announced teams compete.

After a four-year absence, this marks the NFL’s first regular season game in Mexico since 2022. Previous matches were hosted at Estadio Banorte in 2005, 2016, 2017, 2019, and 2022.

“We are thrilled to bring regular-season NFL games back to Mexico City starting in 2026. This reinforces our long-standing connection with fans across the region,” stated NFL Mexico director general Arturo Olivé. “Estadio Banorte has hosted some memorable moments in our international journey, and our return underscores our dedication to nurturing the sport at all levels in this market.”

Mexico hosted the first regular season game outside the United States, titled “Fútbol Americano,” where the Arizona Cardinals triumphed over the San Francisco 49ers with a score of 31-14 at Estadio Azteca on October 2, 2005, attracting a record audience of 103,467.

London was originally the only city hosting NFL games as part of the International Series from 2007 to 2015, before the league broadened its horizons to Mexico City in 2016.

The 2026 international schedule also includes matches in other locations such as Melbourne, Australia; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Munich, Germany; Madrid, Spain; Paris, France; and three games in London, England.
