Arsenal claimed victory in the first ever FIFA Women’s Champions Cup, edging out Corinthians 3-2 in a thrilling final on Sunday, led by Caitlin Foord’s decisive goal. The match, held at the Emirates Stadium, saw Arsenal initially taking the lead through Olivia Smith in the 15th minute. Despite a spirited comeback by Corinthians, with Gabi Zanotti leveling the score, Arsenal regained control when Lotte Wubben-Moy scored. The contest intensified as a late penalty allowed Corinthians to force extra time, but it was Foord’s late-game heroics that ensured Arsenal lifted the trophy.
Gotham FC secured third place impressively, defeating AS FAR 4-0. Despite earlier struggles in the tournament, they dominated the match, highlighted by Khyah Harper’s opening goal assisted by Lily Reale and further contributions from Savannah McCaskill, Jaedyn Shaw, and Midge Purce. Shaw emphasized the learning experience and growth her team underwent during this competitive preseason.
