The final showdown of the 2025 NFL season takes place this Sunday, featuring the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots competing for the Lombardi Trophy. This matchup brings back memories of Super Bowl XLIX, where Seattle controversially chose to pass the ball instead of running with Marshawn Lynch, resulting in a game-winning interception by Malcolm Butler.
This Super Bowl marks a shocking turn of events, as it features two teams in their first Super Bowl appearance since 1981 with preseason odds exceeding 50-1. The addition of Sam Darnold for the Seahawks was met with skepticism, while the Patriots entered after a disappointing 4-13 season under coach Mike Vrabel. Yet, both teams now stand among the top four in both scoring offense and defense.

Predictions
Jordan Dajani:
I’m thrilled for this matchup for many reasons. It marks the first Super Bowl encounter with both teams holding long-shot odds. We have Sam Darnold, possibly becoming the first quarterback to win a Super Bowl after playing for five different teams, and Drake Maye, who could become the youngest winner. Given their offensive struggles, I lean towards the Seahawks defense to prevail and predict a close finish with the score: Seahawks 20, Patriots 13.
Jared Dubin:
Seattle’s defensive prowess is daunting. The Patriots’ struggles have shown throughout their playoff run, and facing the Seahawks defense may prove their toughest test. The Patriots will need to rely on their ground game rather than the pass. My prediction leans in favor of the Seahawks with a score of Seahawks 23, Patriots 16.
