Cristiano Ronaldo has expressed serious concerns to senior officials in the Saudi Pro League, stating he might leave following dissatisfaction with the league’s recent transfer activities, according to sources at CBS Sports.
Ronaldo missed his team Al-Nassr’s narrow victory over Al-Riyadh on Monday due to his frustration over the transfer of key player Karim Benzema from Al-Ittihad to Al-Hilal, especially given that his own team did not secure any new signings.
Once it was anticipated Ronaldo would rejoin his team promptly, he has since returned to training but remains increasingly unhappy. Sources close to Al-Nassr indicate Ronaldo feels “betrayed” and is now contemplating exiting Saudi Arabia before his contract expires in 2027.
While it was initially thought he might make a comeback for the next match against Al-Ittihad, speculation grows that he may skip more games to emphasize his displeasure. The PIF, who manage numerous top clubs in the nation, may need to intervene to provide Ronaldo with reassurance regarding Al-Nassr’s future and the league as a whole.
Despite his frustration at the Benzema transfer, it’s crucial to note that the deal was funded by private investor Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, rather than the PIF. Al-Nassr did invest substantially during summer, with notable acquisitions such as Kingsley Coman and Joao Felix.
Ronaldo, a former Manchester United star, has yet to win the Saudi Pro League since his move, and the latest player movements have raised his concerns over potential career decisions in the future.
