Minnesota United has officially confirmed the signing of Colombian international star James Rodríguez. This marks his debut in Major League Soccer (MLS). His agreement is a short-term contract that will continue at least through the World Cup period, and interestingly, Rodríguez will not occupy a Designated Player spot. The talented midfielder is joining as a free agent after his previous contract with Liga MX’s Leon concluded in December.

Cameron Knowles, the head coach, will see his first major signing with the arrival of James, who brings creativity and dynamism to the team’s midfield. The acquisition comes on the heels of Minnesota’s strong performance last season, finishing fourth in the Western Conference but being knocked out in the conference semifinals.
“This is the club that is progressing rapidly, and they genuinely want me,” Rodríguez expressed regarding his choice to join Minnesota over other high-profile teams in warmer climates. “When a club shows such interest, you must give everything in return and prepare thoroughly.”
He maintains that he is at a crucial phase in his career, preparing for the upcoming World Cup, emphasizing that his focus is sharper than ever. “The World Cup is a significant reason for my arrival here. I must ensure I’m in prime shape for competition.”
James’ future with Minnesota could extend, as the terms allow for a potential six-month contract extension.
