The Dallas Cowboys are anticipated to franchise tag George Pickens for the upcoming season. This strategic move aims to secure his presence on the team while initiating contract extension discussions.
Dallas intends to use a franchise tag estimated at about $28 million, serving as a potential basis for a long-term agreement with the Pro Bowl talent.
“I’m always in touch with George because of my eagerness for what he brings,” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones remarked about Pickens’ future. “He has demonstrated significant contributions to our team and exhibits the potential for even more. I am excited to finalize an arrangement so George remains a Cowboy for many years to come.”
After being selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Pickens spent three flourishing seasons in Pittsburgh before being traded to Dallas.
This past season marked a career high for Pickens, who recorded 93 receptions for 1,429 yards, scoring nine touchdowns while the Cowboys finished with a 7-9-1 record, missing the playoffs. For his performance, he earned his first Pro Bowl selection.
His teammate, CeeDee Lamb, expressed support for Pickens’ potential pay increase, stating, “I want my man to receive what he deserves. I’m fully confident about my own worth and just want to aim for the highest achievements in the game.”
