Saturday’s WBA featherweight championship bout between Nick Ball and Brandon Figueroa proved to be an action-packed showdown. In a dramatic conclusion, Figueroa claimed victory with a 12th-round knockout.
Both boxers fought vigorously, with the shorter Nick Ball utilizing his size to land powerful punches early in the match. The initial rounds saw Ball successfully executing uppercuts and hooks in close quarters. Figueroa, staying true to his explosive style, responded with body shots and speedy combinations, also landing some solid jabs and straight rights as the fight progressed.
As the match unfolded, Figueroa began to gain traction, pushing Ball back as the scorecards might have been tightening. In the decisive 12th round, the fighters touched gloves, signaling their intention to leave nothing behind in the final moments. Figueroa seized the opportunity, landing a decisive left hook that knocked Ball to the canvas. Although Ball managed to stand after the count, he was visibly shaken.
Figueroa quickly followed up, sending Ball staggering through the ropes. The referee halted the match just 32 seconds into the final round, solidifying Figueroa’s status as a two-time world champion, previously holding the WBC junior featherweight title, which he lost to Stephen Fulton in a notable bout in 2021.
With this victory, Figueroa becomes a champion for the second time in his career, showcasing his resilience in a sport where every moment counts.
