Jannik Sinner Suspended for Three Months Over Doping Violations

Jannik Sinner faces a three-month suspension for two positive drug tests, but will be eligible for Grand Slam tournaments during this time.

Jannik Sinner’s drug case is now settled. On Saturday, the three-time Grand Slam champion and the number one player in the world received a three-month suspension due to positive doping violations from the previous year, which will span from February 9 to May 4. Sinner will not miss any Grand Slam tournaments, including the upcoming French Open, which starts on May 25.

Sinner, 25 years old, had trace amounts of Clostebol found in his tests last year. He and his team explained that this was due to a trainer using medication for a finger injury, which was accepted by the International Tennis Integrity Agency. Following a challenge from the World Anti-Doping Agency, Sinner agreed to the shorter suspension as a resolution.

During the statement, Sinner mentioned:

“This case had been hanging over me for nearly a year and the process still had a long way to go. I have always accepted that I am responsible for my team and understand the strict rules are essential for the sport I love.”

Despite this setback, Sinner comes off a successful 2024, having won notable titles such as the Australian Open and the US Open, and recently crowned ATP Finals champion.
