Pirates Add More Offense
The Pittsburgh Pirates ranked last in major league runs scored last season and have focused on enhancing their offensive lineup this off-season. Recently, they have traded for second baseman Brandon Lowe and signed outfielder Ryan O’Hearn. Furthermore, they have reached an agreement with free-agent designated hitter Marcell Ozuna, as reported by the New York Post.
Ozuna showcased excellent slugging capabilities during the 2023-24 season but faced a decline last year, batting .232/.355/.400 (113 OPS+) with 21 home runs and 68 RBIs in 592 plate appearances. Although he is 35 years old, the Pirates are optimistic about his return to form in 2026.
White Sox Bringing Back Fedde
The Chicago White Sox have re-signed right-handed starter Erick Fedde. He enjoyed his best performance while with the White Sox and has agreed to a one-year deal. Fedde previously recorded a 7-4 record with a 3.11 ERA (132 ERA+) over 21 starts with the White Sox before being traded.
Astros Discuss Trade for Paredes
With Jose Altuve now back at second and Carlos Correa at third, the Houston Astros are open to trading third baseman Isaac Paredes. Recent discussions involved a complex trade sending Paredes to the Red Sox.
Rays Sign Nick Martinez
The Tampa Bay Rays have officially signed right-handed pitcher Nick Martinez as reported by the New York Post. The veteran has experience in diverse roles, including 26 starts last year with the Cincinnati Reds.
Marlins Add Pitching Depth
