The Milwaukee Brewers and Boston Red Sox have finalized a trade that brings infielder Caleb Durbin to Boston. In return, the Brewers receive infielder David Hamilton along with pitchers Kyle Harrison and Shane Drohan. The Red Sox also gain infielder Andruw Monasterio, catcher/infielder Anthony Seigler and a Competitive Balance Round B Draft pick.
Red Sox Receive: INF Caleb Durbin, INF Andruw Monasterio, INF Anthony Seigler, Competitive Balance Round B Draft Pick
Brewers Obtain: LHP Kyle Harrison, INF David Hamilton, LHP Shane Drohan
Durbin, aged 25, ranked third in last year’s NL Rookie of the Year voting after concluding the season with a .256 batting average, hitting 25 doubles, 11 home runs, 53 RBIs, and stealing 18 bases. The Red Sox are strengthening their infield options where talented youngster Marcelo Mayer also has versatility.
Kyle Harrison, the key player moving to Milwaukee, is a 24-year-old left-handed pitcher who made his MLB debut in 2023, with a notable prospect ranking. Despite a 4.39 ERA in nearly 200 MLB innings across three seasons, he offers potential value.
Harrison may not directly fit into the Brewers’ initial rotation plans due to existing pitchers like Brandon Woodruff and Jacob Misiorowski but being part of a larger rotation is common.
The trade could also influence infielder depth, especially since Jett Williams acquired from the Mets in previous dealings is now a crucial piece for Milwaukee’s infield setup.
Hamilton adds backup depth to the Brewers infield, while Monasterio holds a similar role for the Red Sox, both possessing MLB experience in multiple infield positions.
