Trinidad Chambliss Gets Approval for Sixth Year of NCAA Play

Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss secures a temporary injunction allowing him to participate in college football for a sixth season, impacting the SEC title and Heisman races.

Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss has received a temporary injunction that allows him to play college football in 2026. The ruling followed his lawsuit against the NCAA in Lafayette County Chancery Court in Mississippi, where a hearing took place on Thursday.

Chambliss sought a medical waiver from the NCAA for another year of eligibility due to a respiratory issue he faced in 2022, a request that was repeatedly denied. According to his team, he missed the 2022 season because of tonsillitis complications and chronic fatigue. Before joining Ole Miss, he played three seasons at Division II Ferris State, earning a starting quarterback position in 2025 and leading the Rebels to the national semifinals.

Impact on Ole Miss

Chambliss was a standout in the 2025 season, completing 66.1% of his passes for 3,937 yards, rushing for 527 yards, and scoring 30 touchdowns against just 3 interceptions. His performance secured Ole Miss’s first-ever College Football Playoff appearance, culminating in a remarkable journey through the postseason.

His return is pivotal for Ole Miss, specifically under first-year coach Pete Golding, positioning the team as a formidable contender in the SEC. If not for this court ruling, Auburn transfer Deuce Knight was anticipated to start.

What’s Ahead

Receiving this temporary injunction doesn’t equate to winning the case; rather, it allows Chambliss to participate while further legal discussions follow throughout the season. His situation recalls that of Diego Pavia at Vanderbilt, who negotiated eligibility issues through the courts, similarly securing a temporary spot on the roster before the ruling.
