England’s head coach, Thomas Tuchel, recently provided an update on Jude Bellingham’s fitness as the midfielder continues his recovery from a hamstring injury sustained while playing for Real Madrid. Tuchel indicated that Bellingham is in a ‘race against time’ to be ready for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Bellingham, age 22, also underwent shoulder surgery last summer to resolve an ongoing issue, which temporarily sidelined him from early matches in the 2025-26 season. Although he was initially expected to be out for approximately five weeks, reports now suggest that he might miss several months.
Tuchel is hopeful about Bellingham’s progress and expressed faith in the midfielder’s determination. He mentioned they maintain regular contact and wish him the best during his recovery.
Shoulder Surgery & Hamstring Concerns
Bellingham was sidelined for key matches due to the shoulder surgery, aimed at enhancing his performance on the field. However, trouble struck when he sustained a hamstring injury against Rayo Vallecano, dramatically reducing his playtime.
As the England Team gears up for their upcoming international fixtures against Uruguay and Japan, Tuchel acknowledges the potential absence of Bellingham from the line-up.
Regarding the battle for the No. 10 position in the England squad, Bellingham faces competition from players like Morgan Rogers, Cole Palmer, and Phil Foden. The decision on who will don that jersey may depend on who is in form and fit come the World Cup.
Fans remain optimistic about Bellingham’s recovery as England prepares for crucial matches leading up to the World Cup opener against Croatia on June 17.
