Michigan Takes Over No. 1 Position in AP College Basketball Rankings as North Carolina Slips
In a significant shift in the AP Top 25, Michigan has claimed the top spot, marking a notable change this season, while North Carolina falls back.
Michigan is the Fourth Team to Reach No. 1 This Season
In a monumental update to the AP Top 25 basketball rankings, Michigan has surged ahead of Arizona, claiming the top position. The Wildcats, who were one of the last undefeated teams, experienced a setback last week, resulting in two losses to Kansas and Texas Tech.
Michigan secured 60 of 61 possible first-place votes, with Houston obtaining the remaining vote.
The last occasion Michigan held the No. 1 rank was on January 28, 2013, culminating in a national championship game appearance against Louisville. Since 1993, the Wolverines have only briefly tasted the top ranking, holding it on two occasions.
Currently boasting a record of 24-1, Michigan is off to its most successful 25-game start in its history, recently winning ten consecutive matches since a solitary loss to Wisconsin. They lead the Big Ten conference with a two-game advantage over Illinois with only five games left in the regular season.
