Steve Lavin Dismissed as Coach of San Diego Toreros in Fourth Season

Steve Lavin's tenure as head coach of the San Diego Toreros ends after a disappointing season, producing no more than 18 wins in any year since his hiring.

College basketball is experiencing another coaching change as San Diego has decided to terminate Steve Lavin after he failed to reach more than 18 wins in a season since taking the position in 2022. Currently, the Toreros hold an 11-17 record and are set to face LMU this Saturday.

Lavin, a former basketball commentator, leaves San Diego with a disappointing 46-79 record. The program has struggled to make consistent progress, especially in the competitive West Coast Conference dominated by Gonzaga.

With Gonzaga scheduled to move to the Pac-12 next season, the coaching position is expected to be more attractive, providing opportunities for a potential high-major assistant to step into the role.
