Orlando City is reportedly discussing a move to acquire Antoine Griezmann, who currently plays for Atletico Madrid. According to The Athletic, the 34-year-old former captain of France, is intrigued by the opportunity to join Major League Soccer. The club aims to finalize the deal before the primary transfer window closes on March 26.
Griezmann has previously expressed his eagerness to play in MLS:
“Everyone knows that MLS is my dream and my goal.” (Translation: Everyone knows that MLS is my dream and my goal.)
The Florida team has been in talks for an extended period, with Sporting Director Ricardo Pereira making several trips to Spain to finalize the deal. Despite being 34, Griezmann remains a valuable player for Diego Simeone’s squad as they aim for success in the upcoming Copa del Rey final.
Negotiating Griezmann’s transfer may not be straightforward as he is under contract until the end of the 2026-27 season. Moreover, Atletico Madrid is focused on achieving their season goals, which include a potential advancement in the Champions League.
Including the ongoing interest from other teams such as Inter Miami, Orlando City faces challenges in securing Griezmann’s signature, as negotiation details remain complicated.
