Gunner Rivers, 4-star QB and son of Philip Rivers, joins NC State
Highly-rated quarterback Gunner Rivers, linked to NC State through his father Philip Rivers, announces his commitment ahead of the 2027 college football season.
NC State has received a commitment from Gunner Rivers, son of the NFL’s Philip Rivers. The four-star recruit and ranked No. 42 in the 2027 class, Rivers is one of the top commitments in Wolfpack history.
Despite offers from teams like Auburn, Boston College, Miami, and South Carolina, Rivers’ connection to NC State proved decisive. Head Coach Dave Doeren offered him a scholarship early on, following a standout freshman season.
Rivers, who plays for his father at St. Michael in Fairhope, Alabama, had a stellar season in 2025, throwing for 3,176 yards and 46 touchdowns. The 2026 campaign could see him fighting for the starting position against current starter CJ Bailey, who may enter the NFL Draft early, leaving the path open for Rivers to join the action right away.
