Running back Breece Hall is set to enter free agency this offseason, but the New York Jets are determined to keep their top playmaker. If a contract extension cannot be agreed upon by the upcoming deadline, general manager Darren Mougey stated that the Jets will proceed with either a franchise tag or transition tag.
Despite a challenging season for the Jets, Hall is seen as a key player for the franchise, and the team’s management is optimistic about reaching an agreement before the deadline for tags on March 3. Mougey mentioned, “The tags are an option. Ideally, we’d find a way to get a deal done and keep Breece around. I think I’ve said that for the last year since I’ve got here. Breece is a good player; we’ve been going through that process and are still doing so.”
If no deal is struck by March 3, the Jets would have to pay approximately $14.5 million on a franchise tag or $11.7 million on a transition tag. “I do get the sense that Breece wants to be here,” Mougey said, indicating potential mutual interest in a contract.
Hall has consistently shown his capability, having amassed significant rushing yards in his seasons with the Jets, and could potentially be one of the top free agents available if he were to enter the open market.
