U.S. Men's Hockey Team Eager for State of the Union After Olympic Glory
The U.S. men's hockey team is excited to attend President Trump's State of the Union address after winning the gold medal, with Jack and Quinn Hughes expressing their pride at representing their country.
The USA men’s hockey team is eager to attend President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address this Tuesday night, according to Jack Hughes and his brother, Quinn, who played pivotal roles in their gold medal victory. The women’s team, however, opted out of the invitation due to scheduling conflicts.
The men’s team celebrated its first gold medal since 1980, thanks to Jack Hughes’ overtime performance that sealed a 2-1 win against Canada. This victory coincided with the anniversary of the famous ‘Miracle on Ice’ against the Soviet Union at Lake Placid.
“We’re immensely proud to represent the U.S. and the opportunity to visit the White House and meet the President fills us with patriotism,” Jack Hughes shared with The Daily Mail. Translation: “Estamos inmensamente orgullosos de representar a los EE. UU. y la oportunidad de visitar la Casa Blanca y conocer al Presidente nos llena de patriotismo.”
Trump extended the invitation during a call with the team following their triumphant victory over Canada.
Quinn Hughes expressed excitement about the occasion: “I’m not sure how much I can say, but we’re thrilled to be going. It’s a special moment for us, and we wish the women’s team well in their achievements as well.”
For the first time in Winter Olympics history, the USA secured gold medals in both men’s and women’s hockey, marking the 2026 Milano Cortina Games as particularly memorable. The women’s squad delivered five consecutive shutouts before clinching a gold against Canada, while the men faced intense pressure before forcing overtime.
Zach Werenski’s assist to Jack Hughes during a breakaway resulted in the decisive goal that brought the championship home.
The women’s team conveyed their gratitude to President Trump for the invitation but explained, “We appreciate the acknowledgment of our achievements, though academic and professional commitments prevent our participation.” Translation: “Agradecemos el reconocimiento a nuestros logros, aunque compromisos académicos y profesionales impiden nuestra participación.”
