USA Defender Sergiño Dest Suffers Hamstring Injury During Match Against AZ Alkmaar

Sergiño Dest limped off the field with a hamstring injury in a match that may impact his participation in upcoming friendlies.

On March 7, 2026, Sergiño Dest, a defender for the United States national team, left the field during a game between PSV Eindhoven and AZ Alkmaar due to a suspected hamstring injury. This incident raises concerns regarding his availability for upcoming international friendlies against Belgium and Portugal.

During the match, Dest appeared to injure his left hamstring while attempting to track down Wouter Goes from Alkmaar. The 25-year-old was taken off the field in the 57th minute with assistance from medical staff after visibly struggling to bear weight on his leg.

“He landed on the ground after a full sprint and grabbed his hamstring. That’s usually not good news,” - Peter Bosz, PSV’s coach.

The U.S. team will face Belgium on March 28 and Portugal on April 1, as part of their preparations for the upcoming World Cup, which they will co-host with Mexico and Canada.

Dest has so far scored two goals in 37 international matches and was a starter in all four of the U.S. games in the last World Cup.

In a stroke of good fortune, Ricardo Pepi found the net for PSV, sealing their win against AZ with a goal in the closing minutes of the match. This marked his 10th goal in the league this season and 13th across all competitions.
