Season-Ending ACL Injury Strikes Rodrygo, Marking A Tough Setback for Real Madrid and Brazil

Rodrygo's severe ACL injury will prevent him from participating in both his club's upcoming fixtures and the World Cup.

Real Madrid has faced a serious tactical challenge after Brazilian forward Rodrygo Goes was found to have a significant anterior cruciate ligament tear. This unfortunate update, which arrived following their loss to Getafe in La Liga, will cut short his domestic season and keep him from participating in the approaching World Cup.

Devastating medical verdict confirmed

Tragic news has been confirmed for both Real Madrid and the Brazilian national team. Rodrygo has a serious injury to the ACL in his right knee. After extensive medical evaluations were performed Tuesday morning post a match against Getafe, it was reported that he has sustained both an ACL rupture and damage to his external meniscus.

Cruel recurrence of misfortune for Rodrygo

The injury took place just 11 minutes after he stepped onto the field during the Getafe match. His knee seemed to buckle during a typical feint, and although he completed the match while in clear discomfort, further evaluations later revealed the severity of his condition.

Previously held back due to tendonitis for nearly a month, Rodrygo was reintroduced to provide an attacking boost but ended up clutching his knee, prompting medical attention.

Arbeloa faces selection crisis

This injury comes at a critical time for Alvaro Arbeloa, facing a growing injury list amongst forward players. Following the injury confirmation, Real Madrid is significantly lacking options ahead of the upcoming Celta Vigo fixture.

Reports indicate that only Vinicius Junior and a young player named Gonzalo remain as the only recognized attackers. Kylian Mbappe is sidelined due to injury, and another player faces suspension after receiving a recent red card.

Ancelotti’s dealt headache ahead of World Cup

The ramifications of this injury extend beyond the club as Brazilian national coach Carlo Ancelotti now has to prepare for the World Cup without Rodrygo. This situation is particularly disheartening considering the approaching tournament and Rodrygo’s dreams for global success.

Medical protocols will be in place for his recovery, although timelines for recovery from ACL and meniscus tears typically range from seven to nine months.

Thus, Rodrygo will miss pivotal matches for both La Liga and the Champions League and will be racing against the clock to regain fitness before the pre-season of 2026-27.
