
Mark Schmidt of St. Bonaventure Steps Down After 19 Successful Seasons
Mark Schmidt announces his retirement after nearly two decades as the head coach of the St. Bonaventure Bonnies, having led the team to notable NCAA Tournament appearances.
Mark Schmidt has announced his retirement from his role as head coach at St. Bonaventure after 19 impactful years. He leaves behind a legacy that includes three NCAA Tournament appearances (in 2012, 2018, and 2021).
“I’m a lucky guy. To be able to be the head coach at St. Bonaventure for 19 years is an honor,” said Schmidt. “When I first got the job, I remember someone telling me I was going to be here for three or four years and then I was going to be selling insurance.”
The Bonnies are set to participate in the Atlantic 10 Tournament with a current record of 15-16.
Schmidt’s reputation remains strong as he exits, having won 57% of his games during his tenure and holding the record for the most wins in the program’s history.
