
Troy and Furman Secure Spots in 2026 NCAA Tournament
Troy Trojans and Furman Paladins earn automatic bids to the NCAA Tournament after winning their respective conference championships.
Two more teams, Troy and Furman, have secured their automatic bids to the 2026 NCAA Tournament by triumphing in their respective conference tournaments on Monday.
The Troy Trojans emerged victorious over Georgia Southern with a score of 77-61 in the Sun Belt Tournament title match, marking their second consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament and the fourth in the team’s history. Georgia Southern, as a No. 10 seed, had made an impressive run by winning five games in five days.
Meanwhile, Furman Paladins, as the No. 6 seed, upset East Tennessee State 76-61 in the SoCon Tournament finals. This will be Furman’s eighth NCAA Tournament appearance since their last outing in 2023 where they famously defeated Virginia with a last-second shot.
In Arch Madness, Northern Iowa clinched a spot by defeating UIC 84-69, marking their return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2016, while High Point secured their spot by winning against Winthrop 91-76 in the Big South.
Adding to the excitement, Queens earned their first-ever NCAA Tournament bid by defeating Central Arkansas in overtime in the ASUN tournament.
Lastly, Boston University provided a thrilling finish in the Patriot League by surprising No. 1 seed Navy, with Chance Gladden making a buzzer-beater three-pointer to propel his team to the finals against Lehigh.
