The Washington Commanders have made a significant move this offseason by signing Odafe Oweh, a former EDGE player with the Los Angeles Chargers, to a four-year contract worth $100 million. The deal includes $68 million guaranteed, as reported by CBS Sports insider Jonathan Jones. This contract ranks as the third-largest in the current free agency, following Jaelan Phillips and Alec Pierce. Oweh’s impressive performance in his final games with the Chargers, where he recorded 7.5 sacks over 12 games, contributed to this lucrative deal.
Oweh, drafted in the first round by the Baltimore Ravens in 2021, experienced a lack of consistency early in his career. However, after moving to Los Angeles, he showcased exceptional talent, culminating in a standout playoff performance against the New England Patriots with three sacks.
The Commanders are coming off a disappointing season and are looking to revamp their defense, emphasizing youth and athleticism to improve on last year’s performance. With this signing, Oweh is expected to be a critical component of their revamped defensive strategy while addressing significant gaps in their pass-rushing capabilities.
