Overview of 2026 Players Championship Odds: Scheffler and McIlroy Lead the Favorites

As the prestigious Players Championship approaches, Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy are positioned as the clear frontrunners in the betting odds, highlighted by their impressive previous performances at TPC Sawgrass.

The best players on the PGA Tour are congregating for their marquee event this week as they gear up for the 2026 Players Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. TPC Sawgrass will again welcome elite competitors who have made their mark here in recent years.

The demanding layout designed by Pete Dye has seen champions such as Rory McIlroy (2019, 2025), Scottie Scheffler (2023, 2024), Cameron Smith (2022), and Justin Thomas (2021) emerge from highly challenging fields.

Thus far, the 2026 season has been marked by a strong competitive landscape on the PGA Tour, continuing last year’s trend where different golfers have taken home individual titles. Notably, the last eleven such champions have all been first-time winners.

Both Scheffler and McIlroy are considered the top golfers in the world, while the competition is intensifying with numerous players on the rise.

According to the betting odds, Scheffler (4-1) and McIlroy (13-1) lead as favorites, with a cohort of 13 other players positioned at 40-1 or better. This group includes returning major winners like Collin Morikawa (19-1) and Xander Schauffele (25-1), along with rising stars like Ludvig Åberg (25-1) and Akshay Bhatia (35-1), who recently triumphed in a contest.

The 2026 Players Championship promises an intriguing competition between the two leading forces of the sport and the challengers aiming to bridge the competitive gap further. Both Scheffler, coming off a challenging outing at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and McIlroy, who had to withdraw due to back spasms, enter with uncertainty surrounding their performances, yet they have collectively claimed four of the last five Players titles.

The lingering question remains: Will this year see a fresh champion, or will Scheffler and McIlroy further assert their prominence and secure another coveted trophy?
