Tottenham's Cristian Romero Injured and Out for the Season Amid Relegation Battle

Christian Romero's injury comes as a serious blow to Tottenham's chances of avoiding relegation from the Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur faces a significant hurdle in their attempt to avoid relegation as captain Cristian Romero has been sidelined for the remainder of the Premier League season due to a serious knee injury.

The Argentine international sustained the injury during a narrow loss against Sunderland. In a challenging incident, he collided with forward Brian Brobbey and his own goalkeeper, Antonin Kinsky. A partial tear of the medial cruciate ligament has been confirmed, leading to a recovery period of approximately five to eight weeks, with further tests to assess the full damage.

The injury comes at a critical juncture for Spurs, who are currently in the relegation zone, sitting in 18th place and now need to adapt without their key defensive player. The absence of Romero is particularly troubling as the club continues to struggle under new manager Roberto De Zerbi.

As the looming 2026 FIFA World Cup draws near, there remains hope for Romero’s eventual recovery, aligning his fitness goals with his national team’s campaign.

Upcoming fixtures will hinge on the team’s ability to cope without their skipper, making their next match against Brighton a crucial one.
