Nolan Arenado's Trade Talks and Latest MLB Rumors

A look into the ongoing trade scenarios involving Nolan Arenado and the recent signing of Paul DeJong by the Nationals.

Nolan Arenado’s Trading Situation

Here are your hot stove rumors for Sunday, Feb. 16.

Arenado Won’t Budge

The St. Louis Cardinals president of baseball operations, John Mozeliak, stated recently that the club is prepared to move forward with Nolan Arenado. This follows unsuccessful attempts to trade the veteran third baseman this offseason.

Due to Arenado’s full no-trade clause, he blocked a previous deal with the Houston Astros. The Astros have since moved on, and the Boston Red Sox, who were initially interested, signed Alex Bregman instead.

Arenado is currently committed to $74 million over three years, with the Rockies covering some of that cost. He has maintained a list of about five teams he’s willing to consider for a trade.

“I don’t see myself really changing that list ever,” said Arenado.

DeJong Lands with Nationals

The Washington Nationals have agreed to terms with veteran infielder Paul DeJong on a one-year, $1 million contract, according to reports. DeJong is coming off a season with the Chicago White Sox where he slashed .227/.276/.427 while hitting 24 home runs in 139 games. His versatility as a shortstop or third baseman is a valuable asset for the Nationals.
