Sporting Kansas City has announced that the match against Inter Miami in the Concacaf Champions Cup, originally set for Tuesday, has been pushed to Wednesday due to extremely cold temperatures expected in Kansas City.
The two teams were set to kick off their campaigns in the continental club competition, with another match scheduled next week at Chase Stadium in Miami. The anticipated temperatures in Kansas City are projected to be in the single digits, with wind chills making it feel as low as -18 degrees Fahrenheit at the match’s scheduled start, which is 7 p.m. local time.

“We know the clubs are in talks,” said Mascherano in a press conference. “We’re waiting to see if there are any updates. As it stands, the game is on for Tuesday.”
Mascherano further confirmed that Lionel Messi, despite the cold weather, would be playing in the match.
The game had spurred inquiries regarding Messi’s availability, especially with Inter Miami’s MLS opener on Saturday against New York City FC approaching. His playtime will likely be managed throughout the season due to Inter Miami’s participation in the FIFA Club World Cup scheduled for June, but he will be on the field on Tuesday.
Additionally, it’s important to note that both teams had requested a postponement, which was granted after consideration by Concacaf, pushing the match to Wednesday when temperatures are expected to be slightly milder. The high on Wednesday is forecasted to be around nine degrees, which is an improvement from the expected five degrees on Tuesday.
While snow showers are expected on Tuesday, the weather looks clear for Wednesday.
